Vacuum Cleaner, types and how they work

The basic principle on which a vacuum cleaner operates is called “suction”. Suction again works on the fundamental concept of pressure. For example, when you sip Coke through a straw, the pressure on the mouth end of the straw is reduced as a result of which the pressure at the inserted end of the straw increases and Coke flows. This is the simplest implementation of a suction mechanism.

The same suction mechanism is what makes a vacuum cleaner work. Only, it is not such a simple implementation of suction mechanism. This article deals with workings of different kinds of vacuum cleaners based on certain principles of physics.

The internal structure of a vacuum cleaner is very simple although it looks a little complicated from the outside. It is made up of six essential components. First is the inlet, the point from where the vacuum cleaner sucks up the debris and dust from your home or office. This end of the vacuum cleaner usually has a host of accessories shaped in various ways to help you clean. Second is the exhaust, a vent built into vacuum cleaner either to jet out the air coming in through the inlet due to suction, or to suck air when you use the vacuum cleaner in the “blow” mode. Third is an electric motor which helps to produce suction. Fourth, is a fan to start and keep the suction mechanism running. Fifth is a porous bag to collect and filter the sucked air of dust and debris that you have collected through the inlet. Last is the housing or the cabinet in which all these components are arranged in an efficient manner to facilitate the efficient usage of the vacuum cleaner. To use the blow mechanism of your vacuum cleaner, the fan has to rotate the other way. Many vacuum cleaners have this feature built in.

As all of us are aware, a vacuum cleaner works on electricity. Once it is plugged and turned on, the electric motor comes on and rotates the fan. The fan has angular blades, made specifically at a certain angle. Once the fan starts running, the blades push the air towards the exhaust outlet. When this process begins the air pressure increases in front of the fan and reduces behind the fan. This drop of pressure creates a suction or partial vacuum. As air always moves from high pressure areas to low pressure areas, the ambient air tries to move into the low pressure area or the partial vacuum, rushing in through the inlet port. As long as the fan is working and the inlet is open, a constant flow of air is created moving in through the inlet and out through the exhaust via the porous bag.

This constant stream of air running through the inlet can be harnessed using various attachments provided by the manufacturer of the vacuum cleaner. By attaching these various kinds of noses with a flexible pipe to the inlet, the vacuum cleaner can be directed to the dust or debris in various nooks and corners of the house or office. Due to the force of the air, dust and debris gets sucked into the vacuum cleaner. This air mixed with dust and debris after entering the vacuum cleaner has to pass through the porous bag which filters out the air but retains the dust and debris. Thus the cleaning operation is completed by accumulating the dust and debris in the porous bag. This bag can later be taken out and cleaned or disposed of after a few uses.

Vacuum cleaners are of various types. The first generation of vacuum cleaners were invented in mid 1800’s which were hand operated. They had bellows through which the suction was created manually. Electric vacuum cleaners came into vogue in early 1900’s but were generally viewed as luxury items for many years.

A very popular version of the electric vacuum cleaners is the central vacuum cleaner. This system has a large fan outside the house or office and has various vents connecting through the walls. A flexible pipe can be attached to any of these vents to clean the area. The dust is collected in a large canister outside the house and can be emptied and cleaned as per convenience, a few times a year.

There is a wet/dry vacuum cleaner available for the purpose of cleaning solids as well as liquids. In these kinds of vacuum cleaners the collection method is a little different, since liquids cannot be stored in porous bags. Usually external buckets are used.

A recent version of the traditional vacuum cleaner is called the cyclone vacuum cleaner. This variation does not have a porous bag collector. It has a maze of spiral pipes through which the air is passed, as a result of which the dust and debris in the air experiences a centrifugal forces and falls away from the air, collecting inside the cylinder.

This is not the end of technology; we would see more innovative designs of the vacuum cleaner that has become a part of every household in the years to come.

Customer Service A great deal of energy is expended by many of the largest business corporations persuading us that they are truly committed to providing excellent customer service. If my experience is shared by other consumers looking for reasonable service from businesses, then these claims are hokum. I am writing this from an Australian perspective, so mentioning specific names is pointless, but I will give some examples of what I have experienced. A large department store chain is struggling to keep pace with its main competitor. The retailing group owning the department store chain is considering selling off the business, since they cannot see the solution to the poor performance. I have shopped at this department store. One time, I found entering the store to be an eerie, almost surreal experience. There were no people. Eventually, a few staff members and customers ambled into view. I asked for directions to find a product, and was told to the left with the wave of an arm, and no eye contact. A little later, I had to wait for the privilege of paying for the item. Staff morale was obviously at rock bottom, and it was no fun to shop there, so people did not bother. Any senior executive could surely have seen and sensed what I did. Too obvious, I guess. The telephone company had a promotion which involved telemarketers calling and offering a deal that included a free cell phone. When I received the call, the telemarketer was based offshore, and had a heavy accent. To make matters worse, the telephone line was appallingly bad I could barely hear what was being said. When I said I did not want a free cell phone the telemarketer demanded to know why not. I ended the call as politely as I could. For a telephone company to market its services over poor phone lines with a telemarketer who wants to argue with potential customers simply defies belief. I was in one of our major banks, and overheard some conversation from the staff behind service desk. One of the staff, obviously experienced, was dealing with what appeared to be a young customer. She seemed flustered. When the customer left, her colleague leaned over and said that was a shopper, to which she replied I thought so. The shopper was a phantom customer, used by the bank to check if the staff members followed the prescribed formula to deal with a customer. This branch of the bank dealt with customers who were both wealthy and of advanced age, some a little eccentric. To use the formulaic approach would risk driving them away. We humans are a gregarious species. We enjoy communicating with our fellows - we need to be needed. We are hard wired to cooperate, so helping one another should come naturally. But no, decision makers, out of touch with day to day life, seem to come up with formulas to better what we do naturally. Subscriptions are an excellent way to increase your profits. If customers like your service they will be happy and renew each year. It requires little time, effort, and cost to keep them as customers and happy. It is much easier to keep someone happy than to build a new relationship from scratch. A subscription service is easily done. By using your imagination you will find one that fits your target audience. Here are a couple suggestions to help start.

Be polite but explain that you will no longer be able to supply them with goods or services for them. You can direct them to a competitors website if you wish. But it is your online store and you have the choice as to if you want to serve them or not. The goal is to make money and increase profits not increase your work load and headaches.

DETAILS THAT MATTER DOORS

We will speak of architecture as if it is made out of color spots or even plastic compositions that go well with each other being perfectly combined with al the other factors in a perfect architectural environment.

When we think about a space as a whole, we must take into consideration everything. When we say everything we mean both the materials that were made to build the construction and those that were used to finish it and add decorative elements, and especially the part that involved the architectural details we are dealing with and on which we can rely. Architectural details can be already present or we can make them by breaking some parts of the construction or by creating new shapes and some environmental dimensions.

This time we will direct out attention to the doors as an element that can close both physically and optically a space, but that can still be an element of decorative imagination along with all the other elements that build up the ambient of that certain room. This gives the door both the physic function of closing and the function of belonging to a whole, a chromatic assembly or a assembly gave by the design that will be recalled in furniture, windows, fabrics.

If the dominant color in the room is green, color that can also be found on its walls we will also paint the door in green, not wanting to create an unwelcome contrast with the walls. This way we will hide the door within the walls, letting it blend with them.

But if we want the door to be a unique distinctive element, we will find either in its design or in its color elements that are already in the room.  And finally, the door can be itself an element of unique imagination within the room. And then we think how we will do this so the door would appear as if it is a plastic composition. We will use construction materials different from the usual ones. For example we can build a door out of brick of transparent plastic that can be painted or we can build a door out of iron with ceramic elements on it or painted glass, or we can simply make it out of fibers, it is all up to our imagination and our way of being open-minded to new ideas.

What type of company is for you?

When choosing the company you are going to work for, an element you have to keep in mind the relational culture of it. This is extremely important; because of this many people with good jobs have given up their job for another similar one with less financial advantages but better people and professionalism.

Trying to write strict and limited compartmental prescriptions for the employees seems a little too pushy. And it because this type of prescriptions simply dont exist! This s type of analysis has the purpose to refrain the classification of the relational culture to only two types, to identify their characteristics, forms and the members that generate them. from here, everyone can build their own compartmental model that can help them perform as good as possible in the company. This model can presume anything, from changing the perception over work to leaving the company whose values inflict with personal values.

In a company there can coexist, in a determinant relationship, two relational culture levels.

The visible level, determined by:
The physic products of the company (building, offices, furniture, uniform, cars) for the personnel
Verbal products (way of speaking). This element belongs t o each company and through them there can be speculated affirmations regarding the value of the company.
Compartmental products rituals and ceremonies whose existence permits the company to show its identity, offering to all the employees the sensation of belonging to the group.

The invisible level is given by the values, the capacities, the knowledge, motivation and satisfaction of every employee of the firm.

If we go from the criteria of efficiency, the relational and organizational culture can be divided in:

Relational culture of progress: the personnel of the firm is able to achieve purposes in a short time, values of the employees are linked as: action, change, development. It can exist in two forms: democratic or dictatorial.

Relational culture of regress: personnel values tend to make them work less and less. This goes especially to over-centralized, state organizations. Employees take chances because the boss wants to, without being aware of the necessity for that specific chance. they will continue working just like before, only that now a new manner would be asked for, so they will continue working badly, with poor results.

You don’t like your couch anymore

You bought a couch that, in the store looks astonishing and you loved it. A special color, a soft and pleasant fabric… In one word, a good investment! But when bringing it a home you realize it just doesn’t fit, the color is too flashy, the carpet is not visible anymore and even the room looks darkened all of a sudden.

There are two ways to get a cover for the couch, you can either buy one or have one done and specially delivered for that trouble- full couch.

The specially made cover will confer a more clean and elegant aspect, being precise for your couch, done to your specifications. Plus, it will neither alter the line nor the shape of the couch, if anything, it will empower it. The only disadvantage is that the special made one will be more expensive that the one that can be bought, causing you to invest more money in “The Couch”…
